Review and book hotels on beautiful Ionian Islands
Zakynthos is a green island, thanks to the luxuriant plantation it has, which is due to the rain, very common in winter. Homer in “Odyssey” calls the island “woody” and Venetians referred to it with the poetic name “Fioro di Levante”.
Due to the abundant water and the luxuriant plantation, the climate is mild; summers are rather cool, mainly after sunset and winters not extremely cold. The sea is pretty war, a quite favorable factor, both for tourism and the reproduction of the sea turtle caretta-caretta and the seal monachus-monachus.
Kefalonia is the largest of the Seven Island (Eptanisa) in the Ionian Sea, its area measuring approximately 780 sq. kms. It lies opposite the entrance to the gulf of Patras and at a distance of about 30 kms. from the western shores of the Peloponnese, between the islands of Ithaca, Zakynthos and Lefkada.
Kefalonia is the most mountainous island of the Ionian sea and its highest peak, rises to 1628 meters. The climate of Kefalonia is temperate with mild winters, relatively cool summers and plenty of sunshine throughout the year.
The physical beauty in Corfu of lush vegetation and wildlife combined with the typical Greek seascapes and the architecture of the British and the Italians attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
The island of Corfu is an exceptional resort for your holidays as it combines breathtaking natural beauty, interesting historical Corfu town sites and Corfu sights the unique mentality of the hospitable inhabitants.

The climate in Crete is primarily temperate, although the atmosphere can be quite humid, depending on the proximity to the sea. The winters on the island are fairly mild and snowfall is practically unknown on the plains but quite frequent in the mountains.
The summer months are truly beautiful and temperatures are often seen in the 30's. One of the best times to visit the island is in the Spring and Autumn when the flora and fauna are seen at their very best.

The island has been quite rich ever since ancient times. The fertile soil have blessed the locals with grapes for wine, wheat, fruits and olives as well as obsidian and rich fishing waters.
Zakynthos is known as the island of songs and serenade, and indeed there are many local serenades and songs that usually sung by groups of men at restaurants as well as in local festivals. In Zakynthos also it was founded the first music school in Greece.
In Zakynthos is the National Marine Park, which has been built in order to protect the sea turtle Caretta caretta. Zakynthos is an island rich in vegetation and the best time to visit is in spring. The island at this time is full of flowers and colors, perhaps for this reason, it was named "Fioro of Levante"

The people on the island is known for their hospitality, and many of them manage to live of the tourism in the summer. Others are involved with farming, fishing and stockbreeding.

An introduction to Greece
Perhaps you're looking for a beach holiday with a bit of the ancient mixed in. If so then a holiday on Halkidiki, Kefalonia, Lefkada or Zante will suit you down to the ground. Plus there's the added bonus of a visit to Athens to see the Acropolis and ruins of the Parthenon to name but a few sites. Does this sound like the last minute holiday to Greece you're after?
For a more traditional beach holiday to Greece you may prefer one of the better known islands. Known as the Ionian 'Emerald Isle' Corfu is a mix of lush pine-clad mountains and soft sandy beaches. Thassos is the island of choice if you're after the more traditional Greek experience in unspoilt surroundings. If you're after a bit more action on your summer holiday to Greece then maybe Crete or Rhodes with their well known party capitals would suit you better. Not forgetting Santorini, Samos and Kos all of which simply ooze charm and tranquillity with their sugar cube villages and picturesque countryside.

Airport Information
Most people travel to Kos via Athens International Airport where they catch a connecting flight to the Island or you can sail by ferry. However to avoid having to change flights, larger companies will book you on a flight to Kos International Airport (Hippocrates) where you can transfer easily in 30 minutes either by taxi or by hiring a car. Buses are a regularly available but check timetables prior to your departure dates as times vary. A taxi transfer will cost around 25-30 Euros.
Kos Nightlife
With Kos being one lively Island, you will find clubs like Heaven (in the Lambi area) with regular DJ spots and you will also find traditional English style bars like the Kings Arms Pub which has five bars. At the many bars in Kos you will find that bars and most clubs don't charge entry although most people stay in the pubs found on the main 'Bar Street' stretch. If you want a break from the clubs and bars for a couple of hours, you can visit the outdoor cinema in Kos Town 'Orpheus'. As usual in Greece, the law states that loud music cannot be played after midnight – and police do drive around as a warning to bar owners – so the music is usually turned down at this time although most bars have back areas or places to gather upstairs and indoors where music is still pumping and drinks are still flowing.
